Citrus County is part of the 5th Judicial Circuit. The clerk handles marriage licenses under Florida Statute 741.01, which gives the clerk authority to issue licenses as an agent of the state. How to Apply for a Citrus County Marriage License

The standard marriage license costs $86 in Citrus County. If both people complete a four-hour premarital course from a provider registered with the Citrus County Clerk, the fee drops to $61. This $25 reduction comes from Florida Statute 741.0305. You need the original certificate at the time of application. There is also a $7 fee for the Affirmation of Common Children form if it applies to your situation.

The premarital course must be from a provider registered with the Citrus County Clerk's office. Not all courses count. Check with the clerk before you sign up for one. The course covers topics like communication, money management, and conflict resolution. It lasts four hours. Both people can take it together or on their own.

Waiting Period for Citrus County Marriage License

Florida residents have a three-day waiting period after the Citrus County clerk issues the license. The license is not valid until three days pass. Take the premarital course to skip the wait. With the certificate in hand, the license is effective the same day. Out-of-state residents do not have a waiting period, so they can use the license right away.

Under Florida Statute 741.041, the license is good for 60 days from the issue date. No ceremony can happen after the license expires. If 60 days pass, you must apply again and pay a new fee at the Citrus County Clerk's office.
