Virtual Marriage Ceremony in Lee County
Lee County offers something most Florida counties do not: virtual wedding ceremonies. If you already have a valid Lee County marriage license, you can get married through a video call instead of going back to the office. Both people must be in Florida during the ceremony. This is helpful for Lehigh Acres couples who want a simple legal wedding without the travel.
To schedule a virtual ceremony, email marriage@leeclerk.org with both names, email addresses, phone numbers, your 9-digit Marriage License Kiosk transaction number, and your preferred date and time. Ceremonies are held Monday through Friday at specific appointment times: 9 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM, 1:30 PM, 2:30 PM, and 3:30 PM. You need a device with video and audio capability. Guests can join the Zoom call too.
The ceremony fee is $30. This is on top of the license fee you already paid. Under Florida Statute 741.07, clerks of the circuit court are among those authorized to perform marriages in Florida, which is what makes this virtual option legal.
Lehigh Acres Marriage License Fees
The standard fee is $86 at the Lee County Clerk. A four-hour premarital preparation course drops the fee to $61. Under Florida Statute 741.0305, both people must bring their original course completion certificates to get the discount. The course also waives the three-day waiting period.
A courthouse or virtual ceremony costs $30. The clerk accepts cash and credit cards. Part of the $86 goes to the Domestic Violence Trust Fund and part goes to the State Courts Revenue Trust Fund as set by Florida law. You can also use the MyFloridaCounty portal to search for recorded marriage licenses in Lee County.
Marriage License Wait for Lehigh Acres Couples
Florida residents wait three days after the clerk issues the license. It is not valid during that time. Under Florida Statute 741.04, you cannot hold the ceremony until the wait ends. Out-of-state couples skip this wait. Taking a premarital course also waives it for residents.
Once valid, the license lasts 60 days. Under Florida Statute 741.041, the ceremony must take place within that window. After the wedding, the officiant sends the signed license to the Lee County Clerk. The clerk records it and then forwards a copy to the Florida Department of Health. The state filing process takes about 60 days after the ceremony date.
Note: A marriage license from Lee County is valid only within the state of Florida.
