Hollywood Marriage License at Broward Clerk

Hollywood is part of Broward County, and the Broward County Clerk of Courts handles all marriage licenses for the area. Florida does not issue marriage licenses at the city level. Everything goes through the county clerk. The good news for Hollywood residents is that one of the four Broward Clerk offices is right in their city. The South Regional Courthouse at 3550 Hollywood Blvd. handles marriage license applications during regular business hours.

Under Florida Statute 741.01, the clerk of the circuit court issues marriage licenses. A license from Broward County works anywhere in Florida. You can have the ceremony in Hollywood, on the beach, at a park, or in a completely different county. The license does not restrict where you hold the wedding.

Where to Apply in Hollywood

The South Regional Courthouse is the most convenient spot for Hollywood residents. It is right on Hollywood Boulevard. But you can also go to any of the other three Broward locations if the timing works better. The Broward Clerk marriage division page has full details on all four offices.

How to Apply for a Hollywood Marriage License

Both people go to the clerk's office together. Bring a valid photo ID. The clerk takes a driver's license, state ID card, passport, or military ID. You need to know your Social Security number. You do not have to bring the card. If either of you was married before, bring the exact date the last marriage ended and know whether it was a divorce, death, or annulment.

You must read the Family Law Handbook before you apply. The Florida Bar publishes this guide. The clerk will ask if you have read it. Under Florida Statute 741.04, both applicants must be 18 or older. No blood test is needed. There is no residency requirement for Broward County. Anyone can apply here, though the three-day waiting period only applies to Florida residents.

If you and your partner have children born in Florida together, bring that information too. The Broward Clerk requires an Affirmation of Common Children form in those cases. Staff at the Hollywood office can help you fill it out on site.

Note: No blood test has been needed for a Florida marriage license since 1986.

Marriage License Fees in Hollywood

The standard fee is $86. This is set by state law and is the same at every Broward location. Taking a four-hour premarital course drops the fee to $61. You save $25 and also skip the three-day wait. Under Florida Statute 741.0305, the reduction applies when both people bring proof of course completion to the clerk.

The Broward Clerk also charges $30 for a courthouse ceremony, $30 for a duplicate license, $3 for a certified copy, and $3.50 for an administration of oath. Cash and credit cards are accepted at the Hollywood location. Part of the $86 fee goes to the Domestic Violence Trust Fund and part goes to the State Courts Revenue Trust Fund, as required by Florida law.

Hollywood Marriage License Wait Time

Florida residents must wait three days. The license is not valid right away. After the clerk issues it, three days must pass before you can hold the ceremony. This comes from Florida Statute 741.04. The waiting period does not apply if both people complete a premarital course. Non-Florida residents skip the wait entirely.

You can find approved premarital course providers on the Broward Clerk provider search page. Courses run about four hours and cover topics like communication and money management. Once both people finish the course and bring their certificates, the Hollywood license is valid the same day.

The license stays good for 60 days from the date it becomes valid. Under Florida Statute 741.041, you must have the ceremony within that window. If 60 days pass, the license expires. You would then need to apply again and pay a new fee. After the wedding, the officiant returns the signed license to the Broward Clerk. That filing goes to the Florida Department of Health for permanent state records.
