Tamarac Marriage License Through Broward

Tamarac is in Broward County, and the Broward County Clerk of Courts processes all marriage licenses for the area. Florida issues marriage licenses at the county level only. Under Florida Statute 741.01, the clerk of the circuit court is the sole authority for issuing marriage licenses in each county. The Broward Clerk marriage division page has the full details about the application process.

A Broward County marriage license works anywhere in the state of Florida. Tamarac couples can hold their wedding in the city, at the beach, at a hotel, or even in a different county. There are no geographic limits on where you can use the license for the ceremony. Many Broward County couples get their license and then have the ceremony at a South Florida beach or venue that suits them.

Where Tamarac Couples Apply

The Broward Clerk operates four locations. Tamarac residents have two options that are close by. The North Regional Courthouse in Deerfield Beach is about 10 minutes to the east. The West Regional Courthouse in Plantation is about 15 minutes south. Both handle marriage license applications and charge the same fees.

North Regional 1600 W. Hillsboro Blvd., Deerfield Beach, FL
West Regional 100 N. Pine Island Road, Plantation, FL
Central Courthouse 540 SE 3rd Avenue, Room 02460, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301
South Regional 3550 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, FL
Phone 954-831-7283
Hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Walk-ins are welcome at all four locations. No appointment is needed. Both people must show up together. The clerk will not process the application with only one person present. All offices handle marriage license applications from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Try to arrive by 3:00 PM to leave enough time for the process.

Marriage License Requirements for Tamarac

Both applicants must appear in person at the clerk's office. Each person needs a valid photo ID. A driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID are all accepted. You need to know your Social Security number. Bringing the card is not required, just the number. Under Florida Statute 741.04, both people must be at least 18 years old.

No blood test is required. Florida dropped that rule back in 1986. There is no residency requirement for a Broward County marriage license. Anyone can apply regardless of where they live. If either person had a previous marriage, bring the date it ended and how it ended (divorce, death, or annulment). Both people should review the Family Law Handbook published by the Florida Bar before visiting the clerk. You will be asked about it during the application.

Couples with common children born in Florida need to fill out an Affirmation of Common Children form. Staff at any of the four Broward Clerk locations will help you complete it. The form only takes a few minutes.

Note: A 17-year-old may apply for a marriage license in Florida only with parental consent and only if the other applicant is within two years of age.

Tamarac Marriage License Cost

The fee is $86. This amount is set by Florida law and is the same at all four Broward Clerk locations. Completing a four-hour premarital preparation course before applying reduces the fee to $61 under Florida Statute 741.0305. Both people must complete the course and bring their certificates. The course also eliminates the three-day waiting period for Florida residents.

The Broward Clerk charges for several related services. A courthouse ceremony costs $30. Certified copies are $3 each. A duplicate license costs $30 if you lose the original. The administration of an oath is $3.50. Part of the marriage license fee funds the Domestic Violence Trust Fund and the State Courts Revenue Trust Fund. Cash and credit cards are accepted at all Broward locations.

Waiting Period and Tamarac License Validity

Florida residents wait three days after the marriage license is issued. The license cannot be used during those three days. Non-residents skip the wait. The premarital preparation course also waives the wait for residents. So taking the course saves money and gets the license valid sooner.

After the waiting period ends (or the same day if you took the course or are non-residents), the license is good for 60 days. Florida Statute 741.041 controls this timeline. The ceremony must happen within those 60 days. If it does not, the license expires. There is no extension. You would need to apply again with a new fee. After the wedding, the officiant has 10 days to return the signed license to the Broward Clerk. The clerk files it with the Florida Department of Health for permanent state records.

Ceremony Options in Tamarac

Under Florida Statute 741.07, judges, circuit court clerks, ordained ministers, and notary public officials can all perform marriage ceremonies. Tamarac couples can hold the ceremony at any location. Parks, community centers, churches, private homes, and event venues are all fine choices.

The Broward Clerk also performs ceremonies at their office locations for $30. This is a straightforward civil ceremony. For a more personalized wedding, you can hire your own officiant. Just make sure they return the signed marriage license to the Broward Clerk within 10 days after the ceremony. This step is required for the marriage to be officially on record. The Florida Clerks website explains more about the marriage license recording process.
