Lauderhill Marriage License at Broward Clerk

Lauderhill is part of Broward County. In Florida, marriage licenses are issued by the county clerk of the circuit court, not by individual cities. Under Florida Statute 741.01, the Broward County Clerk handles all marriage license applications for Lauderhill and every other city in the county. The Broward Clerk marriage division has complete information about the process.

A Broward County marriage license is valid anywhere in the state of Florida. Lauderhill couples can hold their ceremony in the city, at the beach, or in any other county. The license gives you complete freedom to pick the ceremony spot. Many Broward County couples get their license locally and then have the wedding elsewhere in South Florida.

Where Lauderhill Residents Get a License

Broward County has four clerk office locations that handle marriage licenses. For Lauderhill residents, the West Regional Courthouse is the most convenient. It is just a short drive east on Commercial Boulevard to Pine Island Road. All four locations offer the same services and charge the same fees.

West Regional 100 N. Pine Island Road, Plantation, FL
Central Courthouse 540 SE 3rd Avenue, Room 02460, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301
North Regional 1600 W. Hillsboro Blvd., Deerfield Beach, FL
South Regional 3550 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, FL
Phone 954-831-7283
Hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Walk-ins are welcome at all four locations. No appointment is needed. Both people must appear together. The clerk will not start the application if only one person shows up. Plan to arrive before 3:00 PM to allow enough time for the full process. All offices close at 3:30 PM for marriage license applications.

Note: The West Regional Courthouse in Plantation is the closest Broward Clerk location for most Lauderhill residents.

Marriage License Requirements in Lauderhill

Both applicants go to the clerk's office together. Bring a valid photo ID. The clerk takes a driver's license, state ID card, passport, or military ID. You need your Social Security number. The card itself is not required, but you must know the number. Under Florida Statute 741.04, both people must be at least 18 years old. A 17-year-old may apply with parental consent only when the other person is no more than two years older.

No blood test is needed. There is no residency requirement. You do not have to live in Lauderhill or Broward County to get a license here. If either person was married before, bring the date the last marriage ended and whether it was by divorce, death, or annulment. Both applicants should also read the Family Law Handbook from the Florida Bar. The clerk asks about it when you apply.

If you and your partner have children born in Florida together, the Broward Clerk requires an Affirmation of Common Children form. Staff at any location can help you fill it out on site. This only adds a few minutes to the visit.

Lauderhill Marriage License Fees

The standard marriage license fee is $86. This is the same at every Broward location and is set by state law. Taking a four-hour premarital course drops the fee to $61. Under Florida Statute 741.0305, both applicants must bring proof of course completion to get the reduction. The course also waives the three-day waiting period for Florida residents.

The Broward Clerk charges additional fees for other services:

  • Courthouse ceremony: $30
  • Certified copies: $3 each
  • Duplicate license: $30
  • Administration of oath: $3.50

Cash and credit cards are accepted at all Broward Clerk locations. Part of the $86 fee goes to the Domestic Violence Trust Fund and the State Courts Revenue Trust Fund, as required by Florida law.

Wait Period for Lauderhill Licenses

Florida residents face a three-day waiting period. After the clerk issues the marriage license, three calendar days must pass before the ceremony can happen. The license is not valid during the wait. Non-Florida residents do not have any wait. The premarital preparation course also removes the wait for residents, in addition to lowering the fee.

Once the license is valid, it stays good for 60 days. This is set by Florida Statute 741.041. If you do not have the ceremony within that period, the license expires. You would then need to apply all over again and pay a new fee. After the wedding, the officiant must return the signed license to the Broward Clerk within 10 days. The clerk sends it to the Florida Department of Health for the state's permanent records.

Ceremony Options for Lauderhill Couples

Florida Statute 741.07 lists who can legally perform a marriage ceremony. The list includes judges, circuit court clerks, ordained ministers, and notary public officials. Lauderhill couples can pick any venue they like for the ceremony. The Broward Clerk also performs courthouse ceremonies for $30 at their office locations.

If you choose your own officiant, make sure they know the rules. The signed marriage license needs to go back to the Broward Clerk within 10 days after the ceremony. Without that filing, the marriage is not officially recorded. The Florida Clerks website has additional details about how marriage license recording works across the state.
