Pompano Beach couples who want to get a marriage license go through the Broward County Clerk of Courts. The city sits in the northeast part of Broward County and has a population of about 118,000 people. There is no clerk office in Pompano Beach itself, but the North Regional Courthouse in nearby Deerfield Beach is a short drive away. Where Pompano Beach Residents Apply

Florida does not issue marriage licenses at the city level. The county clerk handles it. For Pompano Beach, that means the Broward County Clerk of Courts. Under Florida Statute 741.01, the clerk of the circuit court is the one who issues marriage licenses. A Pompano Beach couple can visit any of the four Broward Clerk locations. All of them process the same application and charge the same fees.

Pompano Beach marriage license information on Broward County Clerk website

You can look up a marriage license that was filed in Broward County using the clerk's online search. The MyFloridaCounty portal also gives access to official records for all 67 Florida counties. Pompano Beach marriage licenses go into the Broward County system as soon as the officiant returns the signed license after the ceremony.

Marriage License Requirements in Pompano Beach

Both people must go to the clerk's office in person. You cannot send someone on your behalf. Bring a valid photo ID like a driver's license, passport, or state ID card. You also need your Social Security number. You do not need to bring the physical card. The clerk will ask for it verbally or you can write it on the form.

Under Florida Statute 741.04, both applicants must be at least 18 years old. A 17-year-old can apply with parental consent, but only if the other person is not more than two years older. There is no blood test. There is no residency requirement. Couples from out of state can apply in Broward County without living here.

If either person was married before, bring the date the last marriage ended. Know if it ended by divorce, death, or annulment. The clerk needs this to process the new application. You also have to read the Family Law Handbook put out by the Florida Bar. Staff will ask if both of you have read it.

Pompano Beach Marriage License Fees

The fee is $86. This is set by state law. Every Broward Clerk location charges the same amount. Taking a four-hour premarital course drops the fee to $61. That is a $25 savings. Under Florida Statute 741.0305, both applicants must bring their course completion certificates to the clerk to get the lower rate.

The Broward Clerk charges $30 for a courthouse ceremony if you want to get married at the office. A certified copy of the marriage license costs $3. There is also a $3.50 fee for an administration of oath. The Broward Clerk accepts cash and credit cards at all four locations. Part of the $86 fee goes to the state Domestic Violence Trust Fund, which is a required allocation under Florida law.

Note: The premarital course also waives the three-day waiting period, so many Pompano Beach couples choose to take it for both the savings and the convenience.

Wait Time and License Validity

Florida residents face a three-day waiting period. The clerk issues the license, but it is not valid for three days. You cannot hold the ceremony during that time. This comes from state law. If both applicants are from out of state, there is no wait. The license works right away.

The premarital course waives this wait. Once you complete the four-hour class and bring proof, the Pompano Beach marriage license becomes valid the same day you pick it up. Approved course providers are listed on the Broward Clerk website. Online courses are available too. Make sure the course is from a provider the state recognizes.

Under Florida Statute 741.041, your marriage license expires after 60 days. If 60 days pass without a ceremony, you start over. You would need to apply again and pay the full fee. After the wedding, the person who performed the ceremony must return the signed license to the Broward Clerk within 10 days. That is how the marriage gets recorded officially.

Ceremony Options for Pompano Beach Couples

Under Florida Statute 741.07, several types of people can perform a wedding ceremony in Florida. Judges, ordained ministers, clerks of the circuit court, and notary publics can all do it. You do not have to get married at the courthouse. Pompano Beach has parks, beaches, and other spots where couples hold ceremonies.

If you want a quick courthouse ceremony, the Broward Clerk offers one for $30. You can do this at the North Regional office in Deerfield Beach or any of the other three locations. The clerk performs a short civil ceremony right at the office. Some Pompano Beach couples get their license and have the ceremony on the same visit, though the three-day wait has to be done first (unless waived by the premarital course).

After the ceremony, the signed license goes to the Broward Clerk. It then gets forwarded to the Florida Department of Health Bureau of Vital Statistics. The state keeps records of all Florida marriages from June 6, 1927 to the present. You can order certified copies from the state for $5 (search fee) plus $4 per copy.

The state office is in Jacksonville at 1217 N Pearl St. The phone number is 904-359-6900. You can also order copies through VitalChek online, though they add a processing fee on top of the state charge. For recent Pompano Beach marriage licenses, the Broward Clerk's office may be a faster option for getting copies locally.
